One hundred and fifty specially cultivated Triumph Tulips that were presented to the town were planted at the Dover War Memorial, as part of an international commemoration project to mark the liberation of the Netherlands in 1944/45.
The bulbs were sent to the people of Dover as part of the Tulips for Liberators project, an international initiative that is setting out a trail of flowers to mark the 70th anniversary oration. The red-yellow Triumph Tulip was cultivated by bulb-grower JUB Holland to mark the anniversary.
The Tulips for Liberators project is a collaboration of the Liberation Route Europe, Keukenhof Holland, JUB Holland and the Embassy of Holland in the UK.
The commemoration project will run until May 2015, when 70 years of freedom will be celebrated in Holland.
